Notes on the Design

The original Treehouse Learning facility nearly 7,000 sq. ft., was designed and built specifically with children and families in mind.  Classrooms, lobby, and kitchen all radiate from the center, and the main facility combines an energy efficient circulating hot water/ forced air heating system.  The building was enlarged in 2008, joining 3,000 sq. ft. to the original design, adding spacious toddler classrooms with varying shapes, skylights, and lofty ceilings.  Indirect lighting and initial carpet selections were continued for their environmentally friendly impact.  Our 1,500 sq. ft. walk-out lower level is for supplementary use by the Treehouse program.

All of our classrooms have names:

the infant rooms are Garden and Mountain, and our new toddler rooms are named for trees—Aspen, Birch, Cedar, and Dogwood.    Preschool children use our south-facing classrooms, Ocean, Island, and Forest.  These rooms access our largest natural grass playground, the location of many school-wide and family activities.   The River Room, formerly a toddler room, is now designated for our older children.

Our lower level community room

is available for meetings or special occasions.   Approximately 1,500 sq. ft., this area features a beautifully landscaped outdoor patio with waterfall, adult restrooms, and serving counter.

Our Facility

Treehouse Learning is located on 1.25 acres in the Indian Peaks neighborhood of Lafayette at 95th and Baseline. Completed in 1997, the building is distinguished by its unique design, triangular roof line and windows, along with generous play areas.  In 2008, Treehouse Learning was enlarged with a 3,000 sq. ft. toddler branch,  creating new classrooms and a teacher resource room.  We now have  two infant rooms, four toddler rooms, and four rooms for older children in our preschool, pre-kindergarten, and summer programs.

Great Room

With its expansive ceiling, triangular windows, and sheer volume, our center area is a unique asset of the Treehouse program.  Used daily for “Big Circle,” this area also hosts a variety of presentations and events for children and parents.  Visible from our entrance and center room, our kitchen conveys home-like warmth.

Our classrooms are distinguished by abundant natural light and volume, unique shapes, cozy spaces, soothing colors, and delightful furnishings.  Most rooms contain custom built lofts, and all contain their own bathrooms plus a separate counter and sink.  Self contained for limited group size and low ratios, each room has access to natural grass playgrounds.

Numerous outdoor spaces feature natural grass and offer a variety of activities, including climbing structures, shady reading and art areas, sand boxes, water play, and plenty of running.  Our largest playground, to the south, accommodates family picnics and special gatherings, such as our butterfly release each spring.  Children see birds, trees, trucks, trains, and mountains on a daily basis.

Through the years, the Treehouse Learning facility and program have enjoyed a special synergy as a result of intentional, high quality design and construction. Indoors and out, Treehouse Learning is a safe and comfortable learning environment, setting the stage for growth, exploration, and creative expression.
