September 23

Good afternoon Dogwood and Cedar families,

This week Dogwood and Cedar learned about season changes.  The children read books about fall and changing seasons such as I am a Bunny, I Love Fall, and Fall Leaves.  The children observed the sky and talked about weather.  During small circle, the children sang “If all of the Raindrops,” “The Leaves Are Falling,” and “Mr. Golden Sun.”

The children worked on their large motor skills when hopping like bunnies, frogs, and kangaroos!  The children also practiced running around cones, tossing bean bags, and even tried to play follow the leader.  Follow the leader is a great game to encourage active listening and can also serve as a game to ensure safety, such as during a fire drill.

Practical life skills were used when children worked on threading large beads, matching colors, and sweeping small objects from the floor.

During art the children used pine needles as paint brushes and used pine cones as their paint canvas.  The children also collected leaves to make collages on sticky, clear contact paper.

During music with Ms. Kathleen the children learned about all kinds of different farm equipment while reading/singing Driving my Tractor.  The children also listened to farm animal sounds and danced with scarves.

Have a great weekend!

Ms. Amy, Ms. Brittiney, Ms. Karen, Ms. Delanie, Ms. Kate, and Ms. Piper
