October 7

Good afternoon Birch families.

This week, the Birch class focused their attention on all the different kinds of emotions we feel.  The class observed themselves in the mirror as they mimicked happy, sad and angry faces, as well as searched for different pictures around the room of people feeling different emotions.

During small circle, the class learned a new song called “Who is here today?” and sang along with some familiar songs as well.  The students also listened along to the books Alligator is Angry, Hippo is Happy, Llama Llama Gram and Grandpa, The Feelings Book and I Feel Silly.

During music with Ms. Kathleen, the class practiced making “Baa Baa” sounds into a microphone, created music using jingle bells and rhythm sticks, listened to different animal sounds and danced with scarves.

The children’s practical life skills continued to grow by sweeping woodchips outside, sorting happy and sad faces, washing the food from the kitchen in the sensory table and cleaning the tables with a wash cloth.

The Birch class continued to work on their large motor skills by walking/running backwards and sideways, balancing along the wooden beams outside, running and catching bubbles and jumping with two feet.

During P.E. with Ms. Kira, the class played “Red light, green light”, jumped over small cones, practiced walking on tip toes and rolled a ball back and forth to each other.

Next week we will be turning our attention to yoga and other calming activities.

Have a happy weekend!
