Good afternoon Cedar families,
This week Cedar and Dogwood children learned about manners. The children reviewed the signs for “please,” “thank you,” and “you’re welcome.” Many of the children have been using the signs for “please” and “thank you” for quite a while now. The children also learned “please” and “thank you” in Spanish, “por favor” and “gracias.” The children discussed how to use good manners to sound polite. The children read books to reinforce the theme such as: Little Tiger Picks Up, Penguin says Please, Little Dinos Don’t Yell, and I am Sharing. The children learned “The Manners Song” and sang the familiar songs “The More we get Together,” and “Make New Friends.”
The children worked on their large motor skills when walking on lily pads and tight ropes during P.E. with Ms. Kira. The children also practiced hopping, throwing balls, and trying star jumps. The children also played “Red Light, Green Light.”
Practical life skills were used when the children practiced folding their nap blankets, washing their faces in the mirror, beading with large beads, and matching colors. The children also worked on washing the tables and the mirror with washcloths.
During art, the children finger painted with sand. Some of the children enjoyed the feeling of the sand in the paint, while others thought it was too strange. The children also made a group mural with bright colors and used chalk on black paper.
The children explored with play dough, sand, and gourds in the sensory table.
During music with Ms. Kathleen the children listened to owl sounds. They were amazed that owls make sounds other than “hoo.” The children also danced with scarves and played shaker eggs.
See you next week!
