Good afternoon Birch families,

This week the Birch class turned their focus on animals in winter and hibernation.  They discussed what it means to hibernate and which animals hibernate all winter long.  During small circle, the children listened along to the books Polar Bear, Polar Bear What do you Hear?, Animals in Winter, How do you Hide a Polar Bear? and The Bear Snores on.

During music with Ms. Kathleen, the class sang along to “Frosty the Snowman”, danced with scarves, created music using shaker eggs and jingle bells and practiced keeping the beat on a drum.

Practical life skills continued to grow by working with animal matching, transferring water with large eye droppers and small pitchers, “cleaning” the tables by spraying with water and wiping with a rag (they could do this all day long!) and working with the color matching peg board.

The children continued to enhance their large motor skills with games like imitating animal actions, throwing bean bags into a basket, practicing different yoga poses and running sideways and backwards outside.

Winter is here! Remember that snow boots are not allowed in the classroom. Please make sure your child has a pair of shoes to wear in the classroom.  Also, please label hats, coats, mittens, boots, and snow pants.

Next week the Birch class will be discussing winter and snow.
