Good afternoon Evergreen families!

This month, the Evergreen children are learning about their amazing bodies. In the first week, the children had the opportunity to demonstrate all the things their bodies can do. We discussed things we would like our bodies to able to do, whether it was possible for our bodies to do some things (flying, biking, swimming), and the many ways our bodies practice new skills. The children identified parts of their body in an I Spy game.” I spy a part of my body that is used for…” running, eating, or clapping. The children discovered multiple body parts work together in many tasks.

In math, the children began a new unit about number sense and operations. They have been practicing counting and number recognition with math games like the bean bag toss and bowling with bean bags. Some of the math games, like Bears on a Boat, involve creating stories about where the bears are going in the boat.

Our social/emotional meet-ups are reviewing how to recognize and predict emotions in others. The children are learning to look at expressions, body language, and the situation people are involved in, to interpret how someone may be feeling. They are also learning that not everyone feels the same way in certain situations.

Literacy lessons have involved games that build conversation skills, language development, skill with taking turns, and building memory. The children have been playing the Ladybug Game, Memory, and What’s Missing.

Next week we will continue learning about our amazing bodies, as we focus on the five senses.
