Good afternoon Aspen families!
As usual it was a busy and fun week. This week we finished up our theme on mammals and introduced instruments. During small group, we made instruments! Children created maracas from paper plates and created rain sticks from recycled paper towel rolls. They filled their instruments with beans and rice. They really enjoyed making and playing their instruments and spent their work period shaking their instruments while singing with their friends. Children also worked on a sorting, patterning and counting with a teacher using counting bears.
This week we read, Not All Animals are Blue, Are Pirates Polite, Dragons Love Tacos, Bob is a Unicorn and Pirates Go to School. The children really enjoyed Dragons Love Tacos, they couldn’t stop laughing.
During our work period children explored with sea shells and moon sand. They enjoyed this activity so much we will extend it to next week! Children painted with green and gold as well as mixed colors to create purple on the easel. They worked on the practical life skill of dressing themselves in costumes; buttoning, lacing, Velcro and undressing. The children were also introduced to a new scooping and pouring work to strengthen hand eye coordination.
Movement this week we danced our socks off! We crawled through the tunnels, walked on the balance beam and worked on our overhand throwing skills using basketballs.
High scope: Children worked on rolling dice, counting dots and shooting that number of hoops in the basket.
Spanish: This week aspen worked on; animals using pictures, counting on the calendar and color song in Spanish.
Music: This week we danced with scarves, played jingle bells and drums to music.
P.E: Today we played duck, duck goose, danced to bop till you drop and animal action.
Literacy: This week children read, I will Be Your Valentine and played “I spy” finding objects that sound like the first letter of their name.
Aspen children are being encouraged to wash their hands correctly. Please assist us in supporting proper hand washing. Rinse with water, lather for ten seconds, rinse and dry with paper towel. Thank you for your continued support!
