March PE Update
It has been a very busy winter (even though it sure hasn’t felt like winter)! This has meant that we have been spending more time doing PE inside. Cedar and Dogwood participate in PE in their classrooms, while Birch-River uses the big room for PE activities. In the toddler rooms, the students warm up to a song in which they practice different locomotor movements such as galloping, marching, and tiptoeing. In the preschool rooms, the children warm up to a song called “The Way We Do It” or run two laps around the preschool playground, depending on the weather.
In Cedar and Dogwood, the students have been enjoying many different activities including a game in which they roll a ball across a circle to another student when prompted. They have also been practicing throwing bean bags and placing them on different body parts (head, shoulder, elbow, knee, toe, etc) when prompted. The children have practiced balancing on a “tight rope” and on “bubble steps” as well.
In Birch and Aspen, the students begin to take on new skills and begin to play many of the games the Evergreen, Forest, and River children play, while building off the skills they learned in Cedar and Dogwood. Two crowd favorites include the movement songs, “Bop ‘til you Drop” and “Animal Actions. They have enjoyed using the parachute for the first time, going through an obstacle course, duck, duck, goose, and sorting foods into “healthy” and “unhealthy” categories.
In Evergreen, Forest, and River, the classes have been enjoying a break from the outdoors. They children have participated activities such as yoga, obstacle courses, parachute, duck, duck, goose, and a tag game called “couch potato” where they have to choose a healthy food from a variety of foods if they get tagged.
