Good afternoon Evergreen families!
The children in Evergreen, have spent their school days in March, learning why it’s important to make healthy choices for your body, and community. They have been learning how to work together as a team, to share their ideas and expertise with each other. The children have collaborated on art projects, digging projects, party planning, and grocery shopping.
This week, the children practiced building a healthy meal. They chose items from each food group for their plate, and practiced conversation skills as they discussed why they thought a choice may or may not be healthy, or safe.
As the children explore cause and effect in their environment, we are having discussions about how to make safe choices for ourselves and others. For example, it is not safe to tell someone to eat sand, and it is also not safe to throw sand to tell someone you don’t want to eat it. Luckily, they all know it is not safe or healthy to eat sand, but telling someone “no, I don’t want to do that” can be challenging to communicate. The children have done a lot of work learning how to work as a team, and communicate with each other.
Spring is in the air! The children are observing the trees and the grass changing around the playground. Next week we’ll begin getting to know the Earth, and taking a closer look at some of the seasonal changes happening around us.
The children were discussing weather changes in Spring, and concluded that Spring weather means storms. They talked about different kinds of storms, wondered if the wind could be strong enough to blow buildings down, decided that it could be, and we discussed having safe plans in place when the weather is stormy. The conversation raised many questions, and children may talk more about it at home.
Have a wonderful weekend!
