Hello Aspen families,
It has been a wonderful week in the Aspen class, the children have been working hard learning all about taking care of their bodies through exercise. On Friday we also discussed St. Patrick’s Day, talking about how people celebrate and popular images related to the day.
In circle time this week we read the books My Body, Pigeon Needs a Bath, We Play, Wacky Wednesday, and Put Me in the Zoo. We spent time discussing how there are many ways to move and exercise your body, as well as identifying some things we do at school that exercise our bodies including climbing, sliding, running, jumping and dancing. The kids all practiced exercising by dancing at circle, counting their hops (they made it all the way to 20!) and running races outside. On Wednesday we also practiced recording information by graphing everyone’s favorite physical activity, including hiking, biking, swimming, dancing and running. It turns out that Aspen’s favorite way to exercise is by riding bikes!
Popular activities this week included sand and water in the sensory table, mixing red and orange paint at the easel, creating art with circles, rubber duckies in the water table and exploring St. Patrick’s Day imagery such as leprechauns and gold, rainbows, and shamrocks.
For an art project this week the kids created their own shamrock smoosh paintings, mixing green paint with the color of their choice. In Spanish this week Ms. Susan taught the children the color song! In addition to practicing counting, greetings and animals, the kids also began to learn some new spring vocabulary.
In music class Ms. Kathleen continued to practice rhythm with the children with hand drums.
With Ms. Charlotte the kids read the nursery rhymes “Hickory Dickory Dock” and “Little Miss Muffet” as well as the story When the Sun Rose. After they read the story the kids had a discussion about friendships.
Have a great weekend, Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
Ms. Kate, Ms. Megan and Ms. Susie
