March 23

Good afternoon Dogwood families,

This week in Cedar and Dogwood class we talked about nutrition and making healthy choices. We discussed what kinds of fruits and vegetables we eat with our lunches here at school, as well as some they may have seen at home. We also talked about how we need to get plenty of sleep and make sure that we drink enough water. The children practiced throwing balls, and the tree pose, as well as played follow the leader. In our small group lessons this week we talked about how to use our fruit and vegetable cutting work, sang “Apples and Bananas” and practiced saying the names of different fruits and vegetables.

During circle time, this week we read: Healthy Me, Sweet Dreams Pout Pout Fish, D.W. The Picky Eater, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, and Colors Colors Everywhere. The children built their practical life skills this week by washing their own faces in the mirror, pouring water from one cup to another, and sorting colors. This week in art the kids painted with the color green, and we talked about green foods like broccoli and peas. We also used the food shaped stamps, and the bingo dobbers on apple cut outs. The children also explored with washing the toy foods with soapy water in the sensory table.

In music, this week Ms. Kathleen brought Waking Up is Hard to Do which the kids enjoyed dancing along to, she also introduced the tone block, which if you’ve never seen before is quite fascinating; It is a hollow wooden block with different cuts and holes, designed to make different sounds when hit with a mallet. The children danced to “The Goldfish” and “Animal Actions” and sang “You Are My Sunshine” as well.

We would like to wish a very happy birthday to Marc in Cedar!

Have an amazing weekend and enjoy the wonderful weather!

Ms. Jessica, Ms. Brooke, Ms. Delanie, Ms. Delani, and Ms. Karen
