May 11

Dear Forest families,

We had a busy, wonderful week in forest!

This week’s focus –  Cooking and measurements. The children had lessons in measurements with a ruler, scale and common cooking tools of measurements. The children explored measuring objects in our classroom with a ruler, exploring weight using a scale and making delicious crock pot applesauce. Each child participated in our cooking project with apple scrubbing, careful measurement, pouring and cutting.

Some of the children were hoping to make this delicious recipe for Mother’s Day. It would be a yummy addition to oatmeal for a Mother’s Day breakfast.

Mother’s Day – We read lovely books celebrating a mother’s love. We had thoughtful discussions on the wonderful things mothers do to show their love for their children and shared ideas on ways to express our love and appreciation for them.

The children put a great deal of energy and care into their Mother’s Day gifts in decorating their plates and heart-warming words in their cards.

Planting –  The children had fun pulling up their sleeves, digging in the soil, planting and watering our new additions to the Treehouse gardens. This year we decided to plant a salad garden with greens, tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers. We have also planted an herb box with cilantro, rosemary, sweet basil, oregano and mint for daily tasting! The children love adding mint to their water bottles for an extra kick. Experimenting with different herbs is a great way to develop a palate for new foods.

A big thank you to Levi’s family for donating beautiful flowers!
