December 16

Good afternoon Dogwood families,

This week Dogwood and Cedar learned about winter celebrations, specifically Hanukah and Kwanzaa.  The children discussed different celebrations that they may remember such as birthdays.  The children read books about families and winter including Make a Wish Bear, Me and My Mom, and Me and My Dad.  The children sang “Dreidel, Dreidel,” “The Snowkey Pokey” (a twist on an old favorite), and “Jingle Bells.”

The children worked on their large motor skills when trying toddler style bowling (using a soft ball with paper towel rolls), kicking balls, and jumping.  The children also walked zig-zagged tight ropes in P.E. and tried out the bubble steps.

Practical life skills were used when the children practiced stomping their feet into their snow boots and putting their legs into their snow pants.  The children also threaded large beads, worked with shape sorters, and matched farm animals.

During art the children decorated their holiday gift bags and painted holiday lights.  The children also painted Kwanzaa flags with red, green, and black. The children explored with snow, colored water, and play dough in the sensory table.

During music with Ms. Kathleen the children used finger puppets while singing “Old MacDonald.”  The children also sang “Baa Baa Black Sheep” while holding a really soft black sheep.  Ms. Kathleen also brought The Marvelous Toy and Frosty, the Snowman song books.

Happy 2nd Birthday to Chirag!

Ms. Amy, Ms. Brittiney, Ms. Karen, Ms. Delanie, Ms. Stevie, and Ms. Piper
