Hello Aspen parents!

Wow, we have hit the ground running after break. This week in Aspen we focused on senses and mammals. During large group; children used echo phones to listen to sounds with their ears, identified colors with their eyes and used their noses to smell spices. Aspen also used manipulatives to match numbers to quantities and PVC pipe to create ramps for rolling. In small groups, children used magazine letters and matched them to written letters in their name. Children also painted their names with corks and purple paint. We read books: Green, Blue, What If I Had Animal Teeth, White Tails and Other White Tails as well as Alex and The Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Day.

During work period; children painted on the easel and worked with playdough. They painted rocks with water, practiced pouring skills in the water table and introduced basic engineering concepts by building ramps and rollers. The Aspen children enjoyed building ramp and rollers, they were so excited to find ways for the ball to roll down the fastest.

Aspen engaged in many movement activities this week. We went on a nature walk, had a dance party, played on the big preschool playground and enjoyed movement with Beth Epley.  This week has been tremendous fun as children continue to build new friendships and explore more independence.

Literacy: Aspen worked on new letter sounds V and W. They also played I spy with objects that started with the sounds “Vvvv” and “Wuh”.

Spanish: Aspen continued to work on colors and social graces (good morning and good bye.) Ms. Susan introduced the group to the shape book. They began identifying shapes in the book and in our environment.

Music: This week in music children made music with shaker eggs, jingle bells and drumming to the beat. Aspen also worked on galloping like horses, dancing with scarves and singing into the microphone.

P.E: Children played ABC freeze dance and stretched their bodies to music.

We are staying busy and having blast in preschool. Have a great weekend!
