Good afternoon, Aspen parents! This week in Aspen, we continued our art theme by exploring prints. We talked about what things make prints and,specifically, discussed fingerprints and other things that make us unique. We made a variety of print-based art projects, including button prints, Lego rubs and special hands that the children created by tracing one hand with markers and then stamping a fingerprint on each finger.
During the week, we read several books, including Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons by James Dean, Bear Sees Colors by Karma Wilson, Leaves by Raintree Perspectives and Pete the Cat and the New Guy by Eric Litwin.
Our High Scope Math activity this week was “Button Drop” and the children tried to drop as many buttons in the inside of a small cup and then guessed if they had dropped more, less or the same amount in the cup than outside the cup. They then counted the buttons inside and outside the cup in order to test their hypothesis.
This week, we also practiced a new hand-washing song in order to help us remember to scrub our hands with soap for at least twenty seconds before rinsing:
“Tops and bottoms, tops and bottoms/ in-between, in-between. This is how we wash our hands, this is how we wash our hands/ nice and clean, nice and clean.”
Next week, we will explore color mixing and will learn about primary and secondary colors.
