September 16

Good afternoon Aspen families,

I would like to share with you some exciting events which took place in our classroom this week. We finished up our theme, “all about me” by measuring everyone’s height and identifying our friends; using only our eyes. Your children are beginning to recognize their names independently on their siting squares and cubby!!

We created birthday cakes with Play-dough and counted the candles on each cake. As a class we observed tomatoes growing in our garden using all 5 of senses. The children created a collage out of magazine images of fall and decorated their names. We also had a lesson on identifying emotions. Then we discussed friendship as well as situations which may bring feelings of happiness or anger. Your children are having a blast as they discover more about themselves and their environment.  Next week we will be transitioning to the harvest season, revisiting classroom expectations and more about fall.

Spanish: In our Spanish class we learned how to say good morning, good afternoon and good night. Ms. Susan read a book in Spanish labeling classroom items and colors. We all learned two new Spanish songs as well as new sounds. This was a very exciting part of our Monday morning.

Music: During music this week we discovered all about the harvest season discussing: tractors, animals and vegetables growing in the fall. Children sang songs with animal sounds and danced with scarves to nature sounds. Ms Kathleen continued working on rhythm and beat with the Aspen students.

Literacy: During literacy children continued with nursery rhymes and rhyming words. The children continued labeling fall objects and other objects from the story Miss Muffet.

P.E: In P.E. this week children exercised their large upper body muscles by working on digging and sweeping skills. Children worked with large shovels and brooms while outside. We also practiced Yoga poses to stretch the large upper body muscles we used.

It has been a busy week in Aspen and we look forward to what fall brings next week!

Thank you,
Ms. Candice, Ms. Megan, Ms. Suzanne and Ms. Claire
