Good afternoon Evergreen families!
The world of a three-year-old revolves around themselves, their family, and their home and community. This week in Evergreen the children have explored who they are (likes/dislikes), facial features (diversity), and the many things they know how to do.
In art, the children constructed a face with construction paper. They looked in mirrors, and talked with their classmates to determine what color their eyes are and discuss the placement of their features.
In science, the children discussed emotions. What makes you feel happy, sad, or tired? How do you feel when you’re hungry? The children worked together to come up with ways they could help their friends solve problems. There was some talk about height, and who is taller than who, so we began measurements. Each child helped measure a friend. When everyone is measured we will make a poster of the different heights of classmates.
In literacy, the children are learning about beginning sounds. This weeks beginning sounds are B, V, M, and C. We will continue working with these sounds next week, as the children match those sounds to the letters.
The children are learning Geometry in math. This week they have been working on identifying shapes. Evergreen students worked with playdoh and toothpicks to build different shapes.
This week our social/emotional lessons taught us about the importance of diversity. Differences allow people to learn new things from each other. Diversity also helps us respect others when they choose to do something different than what we’re used to. This is an important lesson for children when a friend chooses an activity that they might not be interested in.
Next week we will be discussing our families, and who lives in our home with us.
Have a great weekend!
