October 28

Good afternoon Dogwood families,

This week in Dogwood and Cedar was all about pumpkins!  The children read Ten Orange Pumpkins, The Itsy Bitsy Pumpkin, Marley and the Runaway Pumpkin, and This Pumpkin.  The children sang “Five Little Pumpkins,” “I’m a Little Pumpkin,” and marched with “We are the Dinosaurs.”  The children squished paint under plastic wrap on a pumpkin shape.  This activity was a neat sensory experience, especially for the children who do not like to get paint on their hands.  The children also painted and helped to carve pumpkins.

The children worked on their large motor skills when practicing jumping, catching a ball, kicking balls, and throwing bean bags.  The children also worked on ways to move their bodies like marching, tip toeing, hopping, and flying with their arms.

Practical life skills were used when the children used tweezers to pick up leaves and flower petals.  The children worked on scooping water and small objects as well as practiced scrubbing and sweeping.

The children explored with pumpkins, gourds, and play dough.

During music with Ms.Kathleen the children read and listened to My Favorite Things.  The children sang into a microphone, played a drum, and used shaker eggs.

Happy 2nd Birthday to Ikechi and Addie!
