Hello Aspen families!
This week in Aspen we discussed animal sounds, patterns and traditions. Aspen discovered the difference between a moose and an elk using pattern pictures. We read, How Spider Saved Thanksgiving, Ten Little Pumpkins and Friends. During Art children created head bands, paper plate turkeys and painted with watercolors. We used rhythm sticks to build patterns on our body as well as keep steady beats. We sang songs like skidamarink a dinky dink and London bridge. During work period children engaged in activities using foam and a new microscope. The children are enjoying looking at rocks under our new microscope.
Music: During music, we sang songs about Halloween, pumpkins and cats. We continued to work on our Love and Light songs using jingle bells. Children listened to owl and winter animal sounds. Aspen danced with scarves to fast beats.
Spanish: During Spanish children labeled Halloween objects: pumpkin, cat, witch and moon. We watched a puppet show about a chicken and a frog. We sang the colors and vowels song in Spanish as we identified more objects related to vowels. Children also practiced introductions with their names.
PE: During PE children engaged in a game of red light, green light. They hoped on lily pads using a curved line and played a game of chase.
Literacy: Aspen read the book Little Bat and Little Cat with puppets. Children identified rhyming words in each book and discussed mammals. They also played a game of ‘I Spy.”
High scope: Aspen worked on, “Bears on A Boat” using simple subtraction and addition. They also counted how many bears were on a boat using one to one correspondence. Children were encouraged to add and remove bears as the story moved along.
It has been a fun week in Aspen! See you Monday!
