This week in Forest we explored our classroom theme of Grocery Store as well as our Treehouse big idea of North American cultures. We read books about Native American customs and discussed ways people celebrate traditions like Thanksgiving. As we move closer to Thanksgiving we will discuss why people celebrate the holiday and what it looks like to be thankful for what we have.
This week, we also read aloud a Forest favorite: Some Friends to Feed, the Story of Stone Soup. We read the story and discussed how one soup could feed an entire village when everybody gave a little to help. Children discussed with each other what they brought in for the soup and how they were going to help. After reading, we learned the Stone Soup song and sang together as they did in the book. On Wednesday, children helped cut vegetables and on Thursday, children ate the soup they had helped create!
Children have practiced taking on many roles and using a variety of props to deepen their play with this past Grocery theme. Next week we will finish up our Grocery theme and start the transition into a new theme of Restaurants! We will continue to spend time every day allowing children to take on new roles through dramatic play as we build a new theme.
As the weather gets colder, please make sure your child has winter coats, hats, snow pants, boots, and mittens at school!
Have a fantastic weekend!
