January 20

Good afternoon Cedar families,

This week the children learned about peace.  The children read books about peace and being peaceful, such as The Peace Book, Can you say Peace?, I am Sharing, Little Dinos Don’t Push, and Little Dinos Don’t Yell.  The children discussed what a peaceful classroom looks like and worked on saying everyone’s name, or waving to each other.  The children also worked on giving each other high fives!

During small circle the children sang “This Little Light of Mine,” “The More we get Together,” and “Make New Friends.”  The children also played “Ring around the Rosie,” which is a cooperative game that helps build friendships.  The children worked on taking turns rolling a ball to each other.  Ms. Kira has worked on this during P.E. as well so the children are understanding that everyone will get a turn.

Practical life skills were used when the children practiced looking in the mirror and cleaning their faces.  The children also worked on cleaning the table, mirror, and sweeping the floor with child sized sweepers and dust pans.  The children used spoons and other scoops to transfer turtles from one bowl to another.

During art, the children used bingo dot markers at the easel.  The children also rolled balls and trucks through paint to see what kind of tracks they made.  The children worked together to make a blue and green peace mural for their respective classrooms.

The children explored with textured fabric, ribbon, and shredded paper in the sensory table.  The children also washed dishes in soapy water in the sensory table.

Music was all about drums and wild animals this week with Ms. Kathleen.  The children played a drum with a mallet and danced with scarves to “Aiken Drum.”  She brought wild animal sounds for the children to listen to including foxes, squirrels, chipmunks, porcupines, and coyotes.  The children also worked on keeping tempo and following movements with shaker eggs.

Happy 2nd Birthday to Tanner!
