Good afternoon Birch families,
This week the Birch class focused their attention on Chinese New Year! The week was full of learning about Chinese culture through books, songs and art. During small circle, the children listened along to the books Red is a Dragon, Celebrating Chinese New Year and My First Chinese New Year. The class also created a variety of art work to go along with our theme. As a group, the children created cherry blossom trees and painted with red and gold paint at the easel to create Chinese New Year banners.
During music with Ms. Kathleen, the class danced with scarves, practiced banging on a drum and created music using shaker eggs and rhythm sticks. The children also listened to and guessed different animal sounds.
Practical life skills continued to grow by building with wooden blocks and bristle blocks, color matching, threading large wooden beads and transferring water with an eye dropper.
The children continued to work on their large motor skills by dancing with scarves, running sideways and backwards, climbing up the rock wall outside and practicing morning yoga!
During P.E. with Ms. Kira, the class practiced walking on tip-toes, galloping like horses and had so much fun with a parachute!
Next week we will continue our discussion of Chinese New Year as well as learning about Arctic mammals.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Ms. Nicole and Ms. Itzel
