January 27

Dear River Families,

This week in River everyone completed their world map and human body projects! The children colored, arranged, and labeled part of their body as we wrap up our unit on the human body. We continued STEM units and had a special visit from the Wow! Museum. The children worked through a problem to invent a solution and then make their own version of a tool. We encouraged the children to make, test, revise, try again and continue the process until they have a functioning product they are happy with. The children have been working on vowel sounds and vowel variants. They are familiar with a chant to use at home, “when two vowels go walking, the first on does the talking”. In our Jr. Great Books this week we worked with the story, “The Frog Prince”.

In P.E, the children loved using the parachute and played Cat and Mouse.  In Health and Nutrition, the children continued learning about bones and created their own skeletons. Ms. Charlotte held a discussion in which the children shared if there was anything they are afraid of and discussed the emotion of fear. I will be working with each child over the next few weeks for a mid-year assessment.

Next week we will celebrate Chinese New Year and the 100th Day of School!  Please make sure to take your child’s backpack home on Friday, read book over the weekend and return folder empty on Monday. Everyone has had their night with Elmer and next week we start our 100 counting share! See you share schedule for description. Thank you!

Have a great weekend,

Ms. Stephanie and Ms. Kira
