Spanish – February 24, 2017

Hola –

One of the most important part of the language is the pronunciation; therefore, the first thing we are focusing is the vowels in Spanish (Las vocales en Espanol A E I O U).  It’s important to say these vowels in Spanish before reading in Spanish in order to pronounce it correctly.  This is one of the reasons Spanish is easy to learn because these sounds never change.  That’s why in Spanish people don’t ask how to spell a word because it’s written just the way it sounds.

The first thing the kids are learning is the greeting commands such as:

Hola → hello

Como estas? → how are you?

Muy bien gracias → very good thank you

Y tu / Y Usted → and you

Buenos Dias → Good morning

Buenas tardes → good afternoon

Buenas noches → Good night

Adios → good bye

Como te llamas? → What’s your name

me llamo_____ → my name is____

Cuantos anos tienes? → How old are you?

Tengo cuatro anos → I’m four years old

We started learning the animals → los animales.  Here’s a list of some of the animals:

El perro → dog                                       el gato → cat                           el pato → duck

El pajaro → bird                                      la rana → frog                       la arana → spider

La tortuga → turtle                                  el pez → fish                         el mono → monkey

La mariposa → butterfly                        el conejo → rabbit                La gallina → hen

El pollito → chick                                    los insectos → insects          la vaca → cow

El caballo → horse                                   el oso → bear                         El elefante → elephant

One of the songs that we sing at the beginning of Spanish class is the Buenos Dias song:

Buenos Dias,  Buenos Dias            Como estas? Como estas?            Muy bien gracias y tu / y Usted

Usted means you as well but it’s used as a sign of respect when talking to adults and people you don’t know.
