March 10

Dear River Families,

This week in River we did our first read through of the spring performance script! They will be sent home next week to work on memorizing. The children have been working on researching their animal and selected a book on our field trip to the library to find facts about their creature. We have been exploring the shallow waters and coral reefs of the world! The children watched a small clip of “Planet Earth: Shallow Waters”. We continued learning about simple and complex machines. The children went on a hunt to identify simple machines and completed a book about how we use them!

This week in math we began a more challenging unit on combining numbers using 10 as a baseline. The children have been using unifix cubes to represent number bonds 11-20. The children used their 10 squares and counting bears to discover equations starting with 10 (ex. 10+_=?).  We will continue gathering points reading for the critically endangered Vaquita to reach our goal of 100!  In our Jr. Great book we worked with different poems about friendship. In peace lesson this week, the children made dream catchers and spoke more about what makes them feel peaceful.

This week the children wrote their first draft of their animal poem for the spring performance! We will work on memorizing these over the next month (along with the script it will be sent home). If you have any questions about the body part of the costume, please let me know! Again, we are creating head dresses for each animal here during art class! Next week we continued our community workers and leaders share. Thank you to Jen Biegen for joining us on our field trip to the library!

Have a great weekend,

Ms. Stephanie and Ms. Kira
