Hello Aspen families, we have had an amazing week!
Aspen enjoyed learning about the many ways we keep our bodies healthy. We used our sense of touch to identify a variety of fruits and vegetables, discovered how important it is to keep the “sugar bugs” off our teeth, and reviewed how to wash our hands correctly. Aspen also engaged in activities about washing and drying our hands and brushing our teeth during our work period. We also got a chance to play on the Evergreen playground on Friday, which the children loved!
During our small group activities children engaged with water and tooth brushes to scrub the sugar bugs off of paper teeth. Children also created images of dirty and clean hands, using paint and stamps. Children worked with the community helper puzzles this week. They worked as a team, taking turns and matching pieces collectively. The children then took turns identifying each worker and what their role is in our community.
For work period children continued with the tooth brushing work, moon sand and rollers as well as washing pebbles and painting at the easel. Aspen has new puzzles, which have been an absolute hit this week! The children also worked on a construction matching game during their work period on Friday.
We read a variety of books this week which included: My Dentist My Friend, Lilly’s Library, The Pout Pout Fish and the Big, Big Dark, Green Eggs and Ham (an Aspen favorite), Even More Parts and A Healthy Me! All of these books have been a joy as children are engaging more in interactive reading, prediction and simple storytelling during group.
Spanish: Reviewed vowels, counted to 20, animals and their sounds as well as labeling various objects.
Literacy: This week in literacy the children worked on rhyming words and identifying spring objects as well as playing I Spy with Ms. Charlotte.
Music: Read the sing along book, Waking Up Is Hard To Do. We danced to jingle bells and listened to animal sounds.
Highscope: Aspen worked on shape hopscotch and counting dice. Children then jumped the amount of dots on the dice. The shape they landed they were encouraged to identify. The children also practiced movement dice where they would roll the dice and count how many push-ups, jumping jacks or stretches they would like to do. After doing this individually the whole class did exercises together!
Have a great weekend.
