Dear River Families,

This week in River we continued studying simple machines and the ocean! We researched more sea animals in the shallow seas and began learning about the deep sea. The children continued practicing their poems and wrote a journal entry with their costume idea. Your child’s poem and script are in your parent file! We are very close to reaching our goal of 100 point for the reading for the Vaquita program! Hopefully after this weekend we will be able to adopt our Vaquita. Each child made a “shekere” this week, a bright colored instrument with beads and bells. These instruments will be use during the spring performance!

Centers this week included working in our Jr. Great Book’s on a story about a tortoise who is very persistent and brave. The children used their imagination to make up their own story using a book with art and music, “Yellow Umbrella”. This is a lovely activity that I look forward to every year! Math this week included working with number bonds 10-20. On Friday, the children enjoyed writing a news article on a mischievous leprechaun that visited our school!  We wrapped up our unit on Dr. Seuss by reading, “Bartholomew and the Oobleck”, and making Oobleck outside while enjoying the beautiful weather. 

Next week on Thursday 3/23, we head back to the Library for a field trip to return our ocean books and pick new books.  Community worker shares continue next week. Please fill out a vacation form at the admin desk if you will not be at Treehouse during Kindergarten Spring Break (academic break) March 27-31.  Have  a  great weekend!
