Hello Garden and Mountain Families.
This week we concluded our theme of ‘farm animals.’ Some of the children are getting good at making farm animal sounds and recognizing animals when they are named. We have been playing with our set of plastic farm animals a lot. We even took the animals outside to play in the grass and sand in the sensory table.
A hit activity this week was animal bowling. We set up animal shaped bowling pins and helped the children roll balls to try and knock them down. Once they got the hang of it, the older children would help put the pins back in place. They enjoyed watching other children take their turns, too.
This week we read Farmyard Friends: Sheep, Where Does the Rabbit Hop, One Sheep, Blue Sheep, and Animal Hide-and-Seek. The last book has flaps the children enjoy lifting and “touchy-feely” parts to it. The sheep has wool on it and the dog’s ears are furry, that sort of thing. These types of books are a great sensory activity for this age group, and they seem to enjoy them.
Have a wonderful weekend!
