Welcome to Aspen class families!
It has been a joy getting to know each and every one of your children this week, we look forward to helping them learn, grow and gain independence throughout the next year. This week has been focused on getting to know each other and getting to know the classroom.
We start the day in Aspen with our opening circle, around 8:45 am. During our circle time we sing good morning, sing songs such as Twinkle Twinkle, the ABC’s, and I’m a Little Teapot, we also talk about what to expect for the day and sometimes we will read a short story. This week at circle we read the books Pete the Cat Rockin’ in his School Shoes, Little Tiger Shares, Bear Says Thank You, and Doing the Animal Bop. After circle we have our work period which will include small group lessons, including our High Scope math curriculum and literacy lessons. This week the children worked on bean bag toss for High Scope and making the sounds E, I, and O for literacy.
Each day this week the kids have been practicing the proper sequence for getting a rug and taking work out to use as well as to put it back on the shelf. Monday they all practiced their rolling motions by using rhythm sticks to roll on the floor. On Wednesday we introduced the cleaning work which the kids have been using often. Then on Thursday we introduced the chalkboard work and working with playdough! For their first small art project on Friday the children all created their own bingo dabber paintings.
The kids all started Spanish class this week with Ms. Susan! They have begun learning about and practicing their vowel sounds and counting, as well as learning how to say ‘hello’.
In music with Ms. Kathleen this week the children were each able to take a turn playing the tone box, using shaker eggs and jingle bells. They also listened to a few new songs.
Each child had a chance to go for a small group literacy lesson in the library with Ms. Charlotte this week. Together they worked on singing Old MacDonald, pronouncing the sounds E, I and O, as well as playing I Spy.
