August 25

Good afternoon Garden and Mountain families,

Welcome to the new school year!  This week the children have continued learning about themselves with their “All About Me” theme.  The children worked on using gentle touches with their friends as well as pointing to different body parts.

During small circle, the children sang “The More We Get Together,” “The Itsy Bitsy Spider,” and “Old MacDonald had a Farm.”  Each of these songs included sign language!  Vocal muscles develop later than motor skills so the children can communicate sooner with their hands than their voice.  Sign language is encouraged throughout the day in both infant rooms.  The children also worked on signing “more” and “please.”

The children explored their senses while reading That’s Not My Lion.  The children also used play dough, splashed in water with plastic animals, and finger painted.

During music with Ms. Kathleen, the children played bells and pushed the buttons on an accordion.  The children also took turns trying to repeat “ba ba” into a microphone.  On Friday, the children were treated to storyteller Beth Epley’s songs!

Please help us welcome our newest additions to the Garden room, Hadley and Otto!  Have a great weekend!

Ms. Amy, Ms. Jessica, Ms. Lindsey, Ms. Stephanie, and Ms. Jordan
