Hello Aspen families, welcome to a new year!
There is much to look forward to in 2018 as the children continue to learn and grow before our eyes. In the classroom, we are beginning the year going back to the basics and reviewing the five classroom rules as well as classroom expectations while welcoming new friends to the room. Throughout the week we discussed using kind words, such as ‘please’ and ‘thank you’, and talked about how to choose an activity (we call it a “work”), put it away and how to roll and unroll a work rug. Next week we will begin discussing how to be a good friend!
In circle time this week we read the books Penguin Says Please, Bear Says Thank You, Little Tiger Picks Up, and Little Monkey Calms Down. In addition to rules and expectations, the children practiced the Shape Song and other ways to calm their bodies during circle time. The High Scope Math lesson was a fun game called “How Many Steps, Mr. Fox?” The small group literacy included lessons on beginning sounds using the sand paper letters and singing the alphabet with a visual of the alphabet.
Works that were opened this week included a variety of rolling and cutting of floam and play doh, as well as art on the easel, cleaning animals in the water table, and washing the windows.
In music this week Ms. Kathleen brought the children lots of movement with shaker eggs on the floor, scarves around the room, and dancing to a changing tempo.
In Spanish this week with Ms. Susan the children continued to practice their greetings as well as counting to 20.
On Friday for PE the kids participated in yoga and animal actions cards.
Welcome to our newest teacher – Ms. Susie!
Have a wonderful weekend!
