Dear River Families,

This week in River we continued learning about the human body and will begin a big human body project next week during centers. We continued learning about the seven continents on earth and researching more about each continent. Centers this week included working with literacy matching cards (digraphs -ch,-sh,-th,-wh,-ph), defining fiction and non-fiction animals while listening to the story, “Magical Animals” and playing a dice rolling game to help differentiate b/d.  The children continued building puzzles of different countries and identifying which continent the country belongs.

Math this week continued working with using the language “greater than” and “fewer than” while comparing objects. In our Being a Writer program, the children wrote stories about a time when someone helped them. They also wrote a non-fiction piece about an animal that they know. Peace lessons this week included extension lessons on Martin Luther King Jr. The children identified how they can connect what they learned about the Golden Rule with MLK’s way of non-violent problem solving.

Next week the children will continue sharing about their night with Elmer the Elephant! We will be extending our unit on physics and engineering by introducing Newton’s Laws.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Ms. Stephanie, Ms. Charlotte, Ms. Lauren and Ms. Kira
