Hello Aspen families,
It has been another fun week in Aspen class! This week the children have been exploring and learning about their five senses. The chilly temperatures kept us inside a couple days this week so we moved our bodies to the Freeze Dance and Animal Actions We also created an obstacle course that included a tunnel, a bear cave and a balance beam. On Wednesday we had a fire drill and then were were able to stretch our legs on a sunny nature walk right afterwards.
In circle time this week we read the books Thankful, Purple, Yum!, Watch Me! and Me and My Amazing Body. We introduced the five senses sorting game and we all had a blast sorting through the images to decide what was to be tasted, seen, smelled, heard or touched. We also looked at and discussed images of different animals ears, eyes, and noses. The biggest hit at circle this week was the sound guessing game. We introduced three different sounds to the children then had them close their eyes and listen, guessing which sound they had heard. We briefly introduced the concept of recording information by making a chart of everyone’s favorite fruit to taste. It turns out that Aspen’s favorite fruit overall is the pear! Finally on Friday we felt different textures and talked about words we can use to describe them, such as bumpy, scratchy, rough, smooth, soft, etc. The kids also explored the color purple, went for a color hunt around the classroom and created their own purple by mixing blue and red paint at the easel.
Some new works that were opened this week include washing fruits and vegetables in the water table, mixing blue and red paint and threading animal shapes. In Spanish, Ms. Susan worked with the children on practicing their colors and counting to 20 as well as learning new animal names.
For music this week Ms. Kathleen taught the children a new handwashing song, practiced some fun fingerplays and listened to barnyard songs and sounds. And our PE activity this week was motions of the weather and motions of food, such as melting like a popsicle or popping like popcorn.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Ms. Kate, Ms. Megan and Ms. Susie
