March 2

Hello Garden and Mountain families,

This week the children learned about Dr. Seuss in honor of his birthday and “DEAR -Drop Everything and Read Week”.  The children sang “5 Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed”, “Willaby Wallaby” and “ABCs.”  During small circle the children read many, many books, including Mr. Brown Can Moo! Can You?One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish Blue FishThe Foot Book, and The Nose Book.

For large motor activities this week, the children practiced bear crawling, stacking big blocks and bean bag tossing. The children also practiced touching their toes.

For art this week the children used their fingers and paint brushes to paint a primary color mural. The children also used red and blue paint to make Red and Blue Fish. Other sensory activities the children participated in this week include manipulating play dough and listening to the different sounds in the sensory tubes.

In music class with Ms. Kathleen, the child explored different percussion instruments. Each child took turns beating drums with their hands or mallets. The children also danced with scarves.

In honor of “Drop Everything and Read Week”, here a NAEYC list of great books to read to infants. You may notice that we have many of these titles in our classroom:
