April 13

Good afternoon Birch families,

This week in Birch we learned about the South American Rain forest. We looked at pictures of frogs, and snakes, and practiced our frog noises. The children also learned about the things they can do to help protect the rain forest, like recycling, and only using one paper towel. We practiced flying like a toucan, slithering like snakes, and walking on the balance beam. In our small group lessons this week we talked about what kinds of animals live in the rain forest, and sang “Five little monkeys sitting in a tree” and we practiced the tree pose in yoga.

During circle time, this week we read: Be Kind to Trees, Animal Homes, Rainforest Adventure, and A Color of His Own. The children continued to work on their practical life skills this week by threading big beads, building with bristle blocks, and scooping stars. This week in art we painted with green, and explored with water colors. The children also had the opportunity to explore with playdoh and all of the wonderful things they can make with it.

In music, this week Ms. Kathleen brought back the shaker eggs, and the children danced with scarves to Mozart’s children’s symphony. On Thursday, Ms. Sloan visited the classroom – she will be here full time next week. And this Friday Ms. Beth Epley came to visit us here at Treehouse for a fun musical presentation!

Have an amazing weekend and enjoy the wonderful weather!

Ms. Mariah, Ms. Deliani, and Ms. Karen
