Hello Birch families,
This week in Birch we learned about the ocean. We discussed what lives in the ocean as well as the difference between fresh water and salt water. The children looked for shapes in the ocean (they found a lot of triangles). We practiced swimming like fish around our classroom to “The Goldfish” we also sang “Slippery Fish” and “Tiny Turtle.”
During circle time this week we talked about colors, read Commotion in The Ocean and From Pup to Shark. During work time, the children worked on transferring water using water droppers, putting buttons through a coin slot, picking up pom-poms with tweezers, and looked at sea shells under the magnifying glass. They explored with soapy water as well as sand in the sensory table. The children painted with blue and green paint on foil. They also used play dough and made blue ocean slime
In music, Ms. Kathleen brought her guitar for all the children to practice strumming. The children sang along with the song book Over the Rainbow. The children also sang “You are my Sunshine” and “The Alphabet.”
Have a wonderful weekend and happy Father’s Day!
Ms. Sloan and Ms. Delani
