June 22

Greetings Birch families,

This week in Birch we discussed bugs, worms, and other creepy crawlies. We talked about all different kinds of bugs, which bugs are good for the earth, and that bugs will not hurt us (a surprising number of children were afraid of a house fly that found its way into our classroom and sparked quite a conversation).  We even learned that wasps are not so bad, and that they do help the pollination process just like bees. The children looked for bugs on a nature walk, they found a shocking amount of roly polies! We pretended to buzz around our classroom like bumble bees, sang “The Itsy Bitsy Spider” and “The Ants go Marching.”

During circle time this week we continued talking about colors.  We read The Very Hungry Caterpillar and The Grouchy Ladybug. During work time the children worked with the animal pop up toy, scooping stars from one bowl to another, and a big floor puzzle with bugs on it. They explored with play-doh, making bug imprints, stamps, and painting on coffee filters.

In music with Ms. Kathleen, the children sang the jumping song, listened to doorbell sounds, and danced with scarves. The children kept things musical when music was over by singing “Mary Had a Little Lamb” and “Slippery Fish.”

Have a fabulous weekend!

Ms. Sloan and Ms. Delani
