June 22

Hello Evergreen Families,

We had a fun and exciting week, starting with checking on the garden. Over the past weekend the vegetables grew double or more in size, there are vegetables showing and full heads of lettuce. Then the hail storm hit and well, we checked on our garden and discovered how hail can damage plants and other things. The children shared many experiences they had during the storm as well.

We continue to discuss different types of zoos and sanctuaries where animals are visited by people in their specific environments or habitats. This week the focus was on sea animals and we talked as well as read about them in The Boy and the Whale, How to heal a broken wing and Secrets of the Seashore. The students also heard the story of Ollie and Tugg which was about a seagull and a dinosaur who were friends and learned how to help each other out and asked to listen for a new fact.  After the story was read the children drew a picture showing what they had learned.

There was also a visit from The Arvada Center called “Beautiful Oops.” The children read the story about how “oops” can turn into beautiful art. Then it was their turn to create art on their own using scrap paper, paint and writing materials. We enjoyed this activity and have displayed the masterpieces in the classroom!

Have a great weekend!

Ms. Kristine, Ms. April, Ms. Kristin and Ms. Lauren
