Evergreen families, hello!
The most fantastic visitors have been to Treehouse this week. We started with a great presentation by the University of Colorado, the class learned about dinosaurs. The new word of the week was, “paleontologist” and many of the students already knew this word. A paleontologist discovered the first dinosaur bones 200 years ago. We also learned the difference between dinosaurs and other animals that lived at the same time. Dinosaurs legs point straight down and live on land, although some could swim. Other reptiles, including marine reptiles that look like a dinosaurs have legs or flippers that stick out to the side. Flying reptiles such as the pterodactyl are not dinosaurs. The children learned there were herbivorous (plant-eating) dinosaurs and carnivorous (meat-eating) dinosaurs. The children also learned that the stegosaurus may have used the plates on its back as solar panels to help keep it warm.
Students have had new shelf activities presented which include digging for dinosaur eggs and finding dinosaurs inside and then matching the dinosaurs. While talking about measurements in math we used rulers to compare different objects of different sizes. Listening to books about dinosaurs and paleontologist was also introduced.

We also enjoyed the stories and songs provided by Beth Epley. The children danced and listened intently waiting for a time to interact with movement or voices.
Next week – Science fun! The children will have a chance to do many different experiments during the week and will enjoy a visit from Cool Science with a presentation about ice cream!
