Good afternoon Aspen families!
This week in Aspen we talked about feelings, emotions, and moods and how to deal with them. In circle this week we talked about how it is okay to be sad, scared, angry, or frustrated and we talked about ways to calm our bodies if we are feeling any of these emotions. The children came up with lots of ideas such as: walking away, getting a drink of water, asking for a hug, asking for help from a teacher or parent, and giving their lovies or blankets a hug. The children also enjoyed coming up with a list of things that made them happy! Their list included: playing with mommy and daddy, playing with their brother or sister, getting ice cream, and going to the park.
This week we read Alligator is Angry, Hippo is Happy, Sheep is Scared, and Squirrel is Sad. This week in small groups the children made their own self portrait face by looking in the mirror and seeing what color eyes, and hair they have. This week while outside the children have really noticed the leaves changing on the trees! We read stories like Red, Yellow, Orange, and Brown and talked about the various fall colors the children have been noticing.
In music this week the children went on a Fall walk, played resonator bells and sang “Who Sees the Wind”. We danced with scarves to the Trotting song, and listened to owl sounds. This week in P.E. the children continued working on jumping with two feet, they ran races, and they practiced rolling a ball.
Next week we will be talking about calming activities and yoga. Have a great weekend!
