Dear Forest families,
We had a wonderful busy week in our classroom. With the changes in weather the children are really getting a kick out of graphing our daily temperature and recording the changes in weather. This week we graphed several days of clouds and drastic increases and decreases in temperature. We learned that the freezing point is 32 degrees and that we may see temperatures this low soon. Our class agreed that we are not ready snow especially after our glorious fall walk on Thursday.
This week’s focus: Feelings and Emotions
We had a lot of fun this week talking about our feelings and emotions. We read great stories that helped the children to identify their emotions and develop strategies in how to manage them.
We learned:
Knowing the word for what we’re feeling helps us in communicating our feelings.
We learned:
- Happy, Sad, Mad, Brave, Cheerful, Bored, Confused, Surprised, Curious, Proud, Disappointed, Frustrated, Embarrassed, Silly, Excited, Uncomfortable, Worried, Friendly Stubborn, Generous, Shy, Ignored, Satisfied, Impatient, Safe, Interested, Peaceful, Jealous, Overwhelmed, Lonely, Loving, Confused, and Angry.
There are positive and not so positive ways in expressing our feelings.
We learned we can:
- Ask for help
- Solve problems with words Say it, don’t do it (say “I am mad” instead of throwing toys)
- Tell a grown-up
- Take a deep breath
- Describe what you are feeling
- Think of a different way to do it
- Relax and try again
- Walk away
- Ask for a hug
Art- We made lovely leaf rubbings and tissue paper leaves to decorate our classroom. Please be sure to check your child’s art folder each week.
A peek into next week: Simple machines and pumpkins.
Dates to remember: Fall conferences for Forest are October Friday 12th and Wednesday October 17th. Please check your parent folders for Conference information.
Have a fantastic weekend!
