Happy Holidays Aspen Families!

Can you believe we are in the last few days of December?  We are wrapping up the year talking about winter and winter animals! The children have noticed signs of winter like the weather getting colder, the bare trees, and a dusting of snow. The children enjoyed discussing clothing to keep warm in the winter like hats, mittens, winter coats, and snow pants when they are outside playing in the snow. The children also enjoyed talking about how bears hibernate during the winter and birds migrate to warmer climates.

During work time, the children practiced putting on all their winter gear and taking it all off by themselves. They were proud of themselves when they did it! 

In circle, we read I See Winter, Tracks in the Snow, Let it Snow, Little Tree, Over and Under the Snow, Toys Meet Snow, and The Snowy Day.

This week the children also did two separate experiments to make snow! One they combined baking soda and conditioner to make a snow that they could dig and play in in the sensory table and the other they combined glue, and shaving cream to make snow that they could paint with! They had so much fun exploring and creating with “snow!”

In music this week the children listened to various books like Frosty the Snowman, The Marvelous Toy, and Driving my Tractor. They also listened to various songs from the Nutcracker and marched along to the beat while dancing with scarves.

In P.E. the children continued working on bouncing and rolling balls to each other. They practiced yoga to work on strength and balance.  The children also enjoyed running races outside.
