We had a wonderfully busy festive week reading holiday books, making gifts and spreading holiday cheer with music. The children are very excited about their holiday gift this year, please be sure to take it home today. They are hanging in the window.
This week’s focus- wants vs needs and giving
We had conversation about the differences between wants and needs. We discussed our basic needs to survive like food, water, shelter and clothing. We discussed how some families in Colorado and other places in the world do no not have all they need to survive and how fortunate we are to have our basic necessities.
We discussed ways we can help other families in need by…
- Coat drives
- Food drives
- Sponsoring a family or child
- Volunteering
- Donating to shelters for people and animals
- Toy drives during the holidays
- Writing cards or sending special treats to our troops
We discussed that wants are special extra things that are not important for survival like toys, cake and candy. We had discussions about being thankful for what we have and that we don’t always get what we want.
We had wonderful discussions on how it makes us feel to give and receive gifts and how little acts of kindness really can go a long way!

Classroom reminders:
- Please take your child’s work in art folders home. Seeing their work each week is a great way to check in on their progress and to have conversations about what they learned that week.
- Take a peek at our lost and found. The children often do not recognize their own belongings.
- Please check your child’s extra clothes bin to see if they have a change of clothes.
- Please write your child’s name in items brought to school.
Zeh wèh! (Goodbye in Shanghai)
We said goodbye to our dear friend Lily on Friday. She is moving to Shanghai with her family for the next 6 months! We wish her and her family well and can’t wait to send her letters in the mail.
