Hello Aspen Families!
This week the children learned about the stock show. They learned what animals they would see at the stock show, the clothing of cowboys/girls, and they learned that the stock show was a competition for both the animals and the riders. We talked about bulls, broncos, and sheep and listened to the animals sounds. The children were surprised and excited to figure out that they were already familiar with these animal sounds. In circle we read Ten Little Kisses, There Once was a Cowpoke who Swallowed an Ant, and Ms. Wow Never Wanted a Cow. The children loved finding animals and clothing that we had discussed throughout our books.
In small groups this week the children continued to explore color mixing in art by picking two colors and finger painting them together. The children also used eye droppers and water colors on coffee filters to watch the tie dye effect of color mixing and new colors forming. In High Scope math the children used play dough and cookie cutters to practice symmetry and shape recognition. They also worked on shape recognition by playing a Feeling Shapes game. In science the children mixed red, white, and blue at the easel to discover what colors they could make. In literacy the children used new letters to sort and match in our letter sorting work. They also continued working through felt stories.
In music this week the children continued their exploration of composers by listening to the composer Verdi. They played jingle bells and shaker eggs while listening to Verdi’s music. They listened to Mozart and Beethoven as well. The children went on musical marches with Ms. Kathleen and had the opportunity to pick nursery rhyme songs they wanted to sing. In P.E. this week the children went through an obstacle course that had them using and strengthening all parts of their bodies! The children really enjoyed it! Of course, the children had a blast in the new snow as well!
Next week we are talking about peace education. We hope you have a wonderful weekend!
