April 26

Hello Evergreen Families,

This week we have been talking about ways to help out the earth. We know the earth is made up of so many different animals and people, and they count on us to make sure we are using the Earth in the best ways possible. In morning circle we discussed the importance of using only what you need in order to preserve the Earth. The children read books about caring for the earth, respect, and taking care of things.

In our small groups we read Love the Earth and each child made a Pledge to the Earth. The children did an activity called “What Comes Next?” as well as read Who’s Next? Guess who! At the end of the book the children guessed who left the pages and who was going to be the next animal on the pages. They also drew a picture of what the animals might be. The last activity was to sort and compare mammals vs. reptiles vs. amphibians. We talked about the characteristics of each group and sorted them into categories.

Next week, in honor of Cinco de Mayo, we will be making Horchata (cinnamon rice water) in the classroom. We will also be participating in “Screen Free Week.”  The children discussed the importance of taking a break from any screen entertainment and have done some brainstorming about activities to do instead. We will be reading some books about the topic next week. We invite you and your family to participate.

Have a great weekend weekend!

Ms. Kristine, Ms. Cezanne, Ms. Brenda, and Ms. Karen
