February 7

Dear Cedar families,

This week in Cedar and Dogwood we focused on colors and fish.  We read a book called The Pout Pout Fish.  This book is a fun book about a sad fish who walks around to all his sea creature friends and they all try to make him happy again.  We also read Over in the Ocean in a Coral Reef.

In art, the children enjoyed using watercolors.  They also painted over crayons.

For movement, the children enjoyed using their full body to balance on balance beams and push boxes.

The children worked on matching objects and spotting different colors throughout the environment.  The children practiced taking deep breaths and blowing a candle.  This skill is useful for children when starting to learn to self regulate.

We sang songs such as “This Little Light of Mine” and “The Wheels on the Bus.” Our favorite song was “I’m a Little Fish,” it is to the tune of “I’m a Little Teapot.”  The lyrics are:  I’m a little fish, I like to swim (put hands in prayer position facing away from you…  They’re the fish. Wiggle them back and forth like a fish swimming through the water.) You can’t catch me, ’cause I have fins (shake finger back and forth “no no no”), When I swim past my friends, I hear them say (put hand to ear like you’re listening), Stop your swimming and come and play! (make a STOP gesture with your hand and then jump up in the air)”.

Next week we will be talking about love and friendship.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Ms. Kelsey, Ms. Jamie, Ms. Eileen, and Ms. April
