Dear Forest families,

This week’s focus was learning about the impressive mammals found in Colorado. We learned:

Mammals are warm blooded, which means they produce heat from within.

Females nourish their young ones with milk.

Bighorn sheep can weigh up to 300 pounds.

One of North America’s largest herbivores is the moose.

When winter arrives, black bears spend the season dormant in their dens.

The children really enjoyed creating their own bear caves for hibernation.  We played various animal sounds of mammals found in Colorado and the children had to guess which animal made each sound. We also discovered all the various paw prints for some of the mammals found in Colorado. Mammals are really interesting and there are so many to find in our own backyards! 

Next week the children will be exploring reptiles and amphibians!
