Dear Birch families,

The class had a great week this week as we approach the end of summer.  We started the week by celebrating Colorado Day, which was on August 1.  The children identified animal sounds of some native animals such as moose, elk, mountain lion, and chipmunks.  The children then worked together to make a Colorado flag using their handprints.

After seeing how much they enjoyed making handprints the children were able to create sunflowers using their hands and paint, then we colored kites. Before making the kites the class discussed what a kite was.  The responses we got from a few children is that they “are high in the sky” and “get stuck in trees.”

As summer winds down the children were able to enjoy some fun outdoors.  The class brought a parachute outside and enjoyed popping “popcorn” with balls on the parachute.  They also brought out bubbles to blow.  

After watching them grow all summer, the children were able to eat zucchini bread made using the zucchini the children harvested from our garden!  They were excited to eat it and the class was able to discuss how the bread was sweet, which they were not expecting.
