Dear Birch Families,
We had another wonderful week in the Birch classroom. This week the children took a deeper look at emotions. The class worked to review what it looks like when someone is feeling happy or sad. They observed photos of children exhibiting these emotions and talked about what was different in the faces of each photo. There were several occasions this week to practice making these faces in the mirror.
In art this week the children really enjoyed using paint in a variety of ways. At the beginning of the week they finger painted. Many enjoyed this sensory experience and spread the paint all around the paper. The class also painted using pom poms. Some chose to make dots on the page, while others used it as a paint brush and moved the paint all around the page.
For reading this week the class was very focused on emotions. The children especially enjoyed Everybody Feels Happy and Feelings. The class also did some emotion focused songs, singing “If You’re Happy and You Know It” and a meditative song “Rub Your Hands” that helps calm when feeling upset.
The class ended the week with a day focused on being a good friend. The class discussed what it means to be a good friend. They focused on sharing, being kind, and how to make their friend feel happy. We read Fox Makes Friends and sang “The More We Get Together.”
Thank you for a wonderful week, and enjoy the holiday weekend!
