September 18

Dear Aspen families,

This week, we continued with our theme of the Sun, Moon, and Stars.  During circle time, we had a continued discussion about the sun, moon, stars / planets, plus we took a look at the types of animals that come out in the nighttime and discussed daily routines for the daytime /  nighttime.

For literacy, the children began to become familiar with the first letter of their names and to recognize their names on their place mats and cubbies.  The children were introduced to the planets in the solar system including the names of the planets and what they look like.  Also, we used q-tips dipped in white paint to make stars in the night sky which the children really enjoyed.  We read some of the same books as last week for reiteration including the classic Good Night Moon by Margaret Wise Brown, Stargazers by Gail Gibbons, The Sun Shines Everywhere by Mary Ann Hoberman, The Moon by Martha EH Rustad, Stars by Mary Lyn Ray, and Sun by Julie Lundgren.  In addition, we sang some of the same songs from last week including “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star,” “Star Light, Star Bright,” and “Mr. Sun.”

We hope that you all enjoy your weekend ahead.

Ms. Randi and Ms. Allie
